Short answer

Visitors enter Chobe at four gates: Sedudu on the edge of Kasane, about 7 km from the town centre, and Ngoma at the Namibian border for the Riverfront, Ghoha and Mababe for Savuti. Kasane to Savuti is about 165 km, 93 of them on tar and the rest sand. DWNP publishes no official map and there is no fuel inside the park, so carry an offline map and full tanks.

The points below are OpenStreetMap objects checked on 4 October 2026, given as returned so you can enter them in an offline app; navigate by an offline map such as Tracks4Africa, OsmAnd or Organic Maps on the ground, and ask at the gate which tracks are open.

Key coordinates

Save these before you go. Mobile coverage inside the park is patchy at best, and a set of waypoints in an offline app will get you out of trouble faster than anything else.

Navigating Chobe

  • The A33 between Kasane and Ngoma crosses the park as a transit road: no park fee while you stay on the tar, an 80 km/h limit under the regulations, and elephants and buffalo on the road by design.
  • The Riverfront tracks start at Sedudu Gate. Ihaha is two and a half to four hours away at game-drive pace, with ridges of deep, soft sand near the campsite.
  • For Savuti from Kasane, take the A33 west and the tar B334 south from near Ngoma to Kachikau (93 km from Kasane), then about 40 km of deep sand to Ghoha Gate and 30 to 35 km more to Savuti. Lower your tyre pressure before the sand.
  • Savuti to Mababe Gate is about 66 km of sand. Staff at Mababe advise whether to take the Sand Ridge Road or the Marsh Road; the black clay around the marsh turns slippery in the rains.
  • Plan every day backwards from closing time. Driving in the park after the gates close is an offence, and you must be out of the park or inside a licensed campsite.

Road distances from OpenStreetMap routing, checked against published figures. Sand times vary with the season and the load, so treat the totals as a minimum.

Which gate you want

Visitors pay at four gates, all charging the same fees. Sedudu, on the edge of Kasane, is the gate for Riverfront day visits and the eastern start of the Riverfront route; Ngoma, at the Namibian border, is the western end of the Riverfront and the turn-off for Savuti. Ghoha Gate is the way into Savuti from Kasane, and Mababe Gate the way in from Maun and Khwai, which makes it the link to Moremi.

The map also shows other gate buildings named in OpenStreetMap. The Savuti Marsh pin marks the centre of the mapped marsh, well south of where most people watch game, and the Gubatsa Hills pin is the rock-painting site OpenStreetMap labels "Bushman Paintings". Kasane's fuel stations, banks and the airport are all within about 7 km of Sedudu Gate, and there is nothing to buy inside the park.
