Savuti Campsite

Public campsite with ablutions · Savuti section, central Chobe · SKL Group of Camps (DWNP concession)

Budget Inside the park Park-run (DWNP)

The public campsite at Savuti, on DWNP land and run under a DWNP award by SKL Group of Camps, a Kasane company formed in 2008 that took over the campgrounds in 2009. It is the base for self-drivers exploring the Savuti Marsh and the Gubatsa Hills. Each of the 14 sites has a water standpipe, braai area and fireplace, and SKL describes ablution blocks with running hot and cold showers and flush toilets. There are no fences, and SKL's rules are blunt: stay within the campground, no generators, no wood collecting, quiet from 18:00 to 06:00. Reach it through Ghoha Gate from Kasane or Mababe Gate from Maun, with all your fuel, water and firewood on board.

Cons

  • Rate table is undated and probably older than 2022
  • Unfenced; wildlife walks through camp at night
  • Deep sand, and slippery clay in the rains, on the approach
  • Carry all fuel, water and firewood for the round trip

What the park charges on top

The rate above buys you a bed. Chobe National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.

Park entryP270 a day for non-residents, roughly $20 at P13.5 to the dollar.
$20per person, per day
VehicleP115 a day for a foreign-registered vehicle, roughly $9 (P30 for a Botswana-registered or hired car).
$9per vehicle, per day

Three nights means three days inside, so two adults sharing one vehicle pay $147 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.

Rates at Savuti Campsite

$50 per person (SKL table, undated). US$50 per adult (18 and over) per night, US$25 for children 8 to 17, US$10 for children 5 to 7 and free under 5, on SKL's own conditions-of-entry page. Citizens pay P100, residents P150 and SADC nationals ZAR250. The table is undated and sits beside the pre-2022 park fees, so it probably predates April 2022; travel guides quoted US$60 (July 2025) and US$70 (July 2026) for Savuti. A P10 per person per day bed levy, park entry (P270 per non-resident per day) and vehicle fees come on top, and SKL does not say whether DWNP's P60 camping levy is included. Up to three vehicles per site.

Self-catering. You cook. Nothing else is included unless the entry says so.

Every figure on this page is in US dollars.

Rates checked on 4 October 2026, per person per night sharing, from each property's own website or rate sheet where one is published. Desert & Delta, Belmond, &Beyond, Bush Ways, Machaba and several Kasane lodges publish none, so those figures come from two resellers, chobe.com and the Siyabona network (safari.co.za), and are marked as a reseller rate; the houseboat and Ichingo figures from chobe.com are in South African rand. SKL's campsite table is undated. Kwando Safaris, African Bush Camps and several smaller lodges publish no rates at all. Park entry is P270 per non-resident per day for a private visitor and P190 on an operator's activity, and many Kasane packages leave it out, so check what your rate includes.

Questions about Savuti Campsite

How do you book Savuti Campsite?

Through SKL Group of Camps, on the online booking engine at sklcamps.com or by email to reservations@sklcamps.co.bw. At the gate you need both the SKL voucher and a DWNP permit.

How much does it cost to camp at Savuti?

SKL's own table says US$50 per adult per night, US$25 for children 8 to 17 and US$10 for children 5 to 7, but the table is undated and probably predates 2022. Travel guides quoted US$60 to US$70 in 2025 and 2026. Add the P10 bed levy, P270 per non-resident per day for park entry and the vehicle fee.

Is Savuti Campsite fenced?

No. SKL's conditions of entry tell campers to stay within the campground because no fences surround the sites, and walking in the park outside the campground is prohibited. Generators are not allowed and quiet hours run from 18:00 to 06:00.
