Chobe in June
June is the month the Savuti Channel news comes in: in years when it flows, Linyanti water reaches the upper channel in June or July, and in June 2026 it did. On the riverfront the dry season settles in, the nights turn cold and the herds build.
If you only want the answer
June is excellent and still a notch below peak prices: dry, with highs of 25.4°C and model nights of 12.9°C that feel colder at dawn, the river falling and the herds building on the riverfront. Malaria risk drops to low from 1 June, the Savuti and Nogatsaa lodges hold shoulder rates until 30 June, and campsites fill fast.
June weather: dry days, cold dawns
The normals for the middle of the park give June 1 mm of rain and rarely a wet day, afternoons of 25.4°C and nights of 12.9°C. Those nights are a model figure, and nights in June and July can be colder than it suggests: a 1960s station record on the riverfront ran 2 to 3°C colder than the models, and Chobe Game Lodge says early mornings from April to June can drop to 4°C. In an open vehicle at dawn, dress for winter.
Expert Africa calls June an excellent time for both land and water safaris. The bush thins and the floodplain grass is still green from the flood.
The Kwando pulse and the Savuti Channel
While the Chobe falls back towards its banks, a second, smaller flood arrives from the Kwando around mid-June and pushes water up the Linyanti channel towards Lake Liambezi. On the riverfront the river keeps dropping and is usually back to bank-full at Kasane by mid-July.
The Savuti Channel runs on a longer cycle. Wilderness, whose Savuti camp sits at the upper end of the channel in the Linyanti concession outside the park, says June to July is the typical time for water to reach the channel in a flow year, and reported in June 2026 that the channel was flowing again, with satellite imagery dated 8 June. Whether that water has reached the Savuti marsh inside the park has not been reported, so do not plan around a flooded marsh.
Rates, malaria and bookings in June
Wilderness Savuti moves to its peak rate of $2,038 per person per night on 1 June 2026. Inside the park, Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge stays at $841 and Nogatsaa Pans Chobe Lodge at $607 until 30 June, rising on 1 July. Chobe Bakwena is already on its peak rate of $766 for a two-night stay.
NaTHNaC classes the Chobe district as low malaria risk from June to September: bite avoidance for everyone, antimalarials only after an individual assessment. Expert Africa notes that camp availability becomes scarce in June, so book Ihaha and Savuti campsites as soon as the operators' twelve-month window opens.
