Official Botswana DWNP rates

Chobe National Park entry fees

Every fee is set in Botswana pula (P) and charged per calendar day, including the day you leave. Pay in cash, in pula, at the gate: card machines at the payment points are widely reported as unreliable. At about P13.5 to the US dollar (mid-market rate of 14 September 2026), the non-resident entry fee is roughly $20 a day and the foreign-vehicle fee roughly $9. The 2022 schedule does not say whether VAT is included.

If you only want the answer

A non-resident pays P270 per person per day, about $20, under the April 2022 DWNP schedule that is still in force. A foreign-registered car under 3,500 kg adds P115 a day, a Chobe-only rate, and a Botswana-registered or hired car P30. Both are charged every calendar day including departure day, in pula cash at the gate, and you need a campsite or lodge booking to stay overnight.

Park entry fee, Category A (per person, per day)

Non-resident (international visitor) P270 about $20; P190 if you are the client of a licensed Botswana tour operator, for example on a Kasane boat cruise or game drive
SADC national or Botswana resident P205 P145 as the client of a Botswana tour operator
Botswana citizen P30 P20 as the client of a Botswana tour operator
Children Under 8 free older children pay half the adult fee; DWNP's current upper age for the half rate is not published online, and sources give 15, 17 or 18

The postponed revision would raise the non-resident fee to P500 a day and, as the government document prints it, the tour-operator client rate to P640. The P380 figure that circulated in February 2026 is the proposed rate for Botswana's Category B parks, not for Chobe, whose proposed rate was P500.

Vehicle entry (per vehicle, per day)

Foreign-registered vehicle under 3,500 kg P115 about $9; a Chobe-only rate in the 2022 schedule. Moremi and every other park charge P75
Botswana-registered vehicle under 3,500 kg P30 this includes a hire car collected in Kasane or Maun; P20 at the other parks
Caravan or trailer P15 / P60 P15 Botswana-registered, P60 foreign-registered, per day
Vehicle 3,500 to 7,000 kg P500 / P1,000 Botswana-registered / foreign-registered, per day; the band an overloaded expedition truck can land in

The 2022 First Schedule is the only government document with a vehicle table, and it gives Chobe its own column, separate from "all other parks". The December 2025 Savingram behind the postponed increase has no vehicle rows, so no revised vehicle fee has ever been published. The owner must prove a vehicle's weight category or pays the dearer band, so carry registration papers showing tare and gross weight. Driving straight through on the A33 transit road between Kasane and Ngoma costs nothing; the fee applies once you turn onto the park tracks.

Camping: the operator's rate, plus park entry and vehicle fees

DWNP camping fee, non-resident (per person, per night) P60 P45 SADC or resident, P20 citizen. Neither DWNP nor the four campsite operators say whether it is charged on top of the operator's rate, so ask when you book
Ihaha, Riverfront (Kwalate Safaris), 10 sites ±$40–50 per person per night; Kwalate publishes no rate. US$40 in July 2025 and US$50 in July 2026 according to two booking guides
Savuti (SKL Group of Camps), 14 sites ±$50–70 per person per night, adults 18 and over; SKL's own table says US$50 but predates April 2022, while 2025 and 2026 guides give US$60 and US$70. SKL adds a P10 bed levy per person per day
Linyanti (SKL Group of Camps), 5 sites ±$50–70 same SKL table and the same caveat as Savuti; the remotest of the four
Nogatsaa (Ghoha Hills), 6 sites $80 per person sharing, adults and children 5 to 15, under 5 free; 2026 rate sheet valid 1 January to 31 December 2026, bed levy included, park and vehicle fees paid to DWNP on top

A day visit to the Riverfront needs no booking: you register and pay at Sedudu or Ngoma Gate. Staying overnight needs a confirmed campsite or lodge booking, and being inside the park after closing time anywhere but a licensed campsite is an offence. All four public campsites sit on DWNP land and are run by private operators; none is booked through DWNP. Availability opens about 12 months ahead, and Ihaha and Savuti go first for June to October.

Activities

Boat cruise from Kasane, park fee as a tour operator's client P190 per person per day in park waters, charged by the operator; the cruise price comes on top, for example BWP 498 for a three-hour sunset cruise sold by a Kasane booking agent in 2026
Your own powered boat, Botswana-registered P30 per boat per day (P3,000 a year); the schedule makes no provision for foreign-registered boats
Fishing Outside the park only fishing in park waters is not allowed; licence from any DWNP office, closed season January and February nationwide
Night drives and walking safaris Not offered in the park the national tariff prices both at P280, but visitors cannot do either inside Chobe; the private concessions and forest reserves outside the boundary offer them

If you self-drive in the morning and join a cruise in the afternoon, you may be charged the park fee twice. One Kasane operator asks guests to pay at Sedudu Gate and bring the receipt; keep yours.

Something this page does not answer?

Fees are the one thing park authorities change without telling anyone, and some of them publish nothing at all.

Ask us. We answer questions about the park itself, and we can usually tell you which camps work on one route and who to write to. If what you want is a trip someone else arranges, we will say so and hand you to an operator we know, and we earn a commission if that becomes a booking.

Nothing on this site sits behind the form. Every figure we have is already on the page.
